Some Highlights of Phase I of TU's History under the Leadership of Elizabeth Davis-Russell, EdD, PhD

  • Went from a college of technology to a comprehensive university with the capability for master's level programs; a university built upon a set of core values and principles of operation
  • Renovated 13 of 15 destroyed buildings
  • Built 6 new buildings, including 28 new units of faculty housing; Monrovia office; academic gallery annex for faculty office; administration building annex for administrators; RSTI hosting the College of Engineering and Technology; the agriculture lab
  • Leased two academic buildings; Bishop Ferguson High School, Bishop Dalieh Jr. High School
  • Leased five residential buildings: Dioh's,(2) Badawi's, Hodge's, Methodist Parsonage
  • Installed a 550 KVA Transformer to expand and regulate the flow of electricity on campus.
  • Established six colleges within the University with 24 degree programs, some of which were the first of their kind in Liberia and sorely needed (early childhood development, guidance and counseling, bachelor's in public health, and psychology)
  • Completed a 370-page Catalog for Academic Years 2016-2020 that contains 24 programs, their descriptions, learning objectives and outcomes, their structures and descriptions of all courses. The catalog includes a 4 year academic calendar
  • Produced 428 graduates, (104 females, 324 males) thereby adding to the workforce, 70 teachers, 95 agriculturalists, 68 engineers, 86 nurses and public health specialists, 109 management and administration specialists. These graduates came from 14 of the 15 counties in Liberia.   • Established the Grow our Own program to increase the number of Liberian faculty. Thirteen employees have gone on to complete their master's degrees through this program
  • Established a University Clinic with lab facilities to serve students, faculty, staff and community residents
  • Established a state-of-the-art simulation clinical lab to train nurses
  • Through a grant from Liberia Education Trust, modernized the library to include electronic bar code system, CCTV for security, and an audio-visual room to present live and interactive transmissions
  • We have established several international partnerships, three of which resulted in a cooperative relationship among three HBCU's to design a state of the art library for TU. The TU 13 Foundation Board is now in fundraising phases to raise funds to build the library
  • Our outreach to the communities surrounding us includes three Health Fairs with each one serving over 500 adults and children, Women's Empowerment Program which provided skills training to 100 village women in Grand Cavalla in tied dyeing, jewelry making, arts and crafts, soap making, the adoption of Pedabo Village, providing services to the Grand Cavalla Integrated Village Program which includes adult literacy and numeracy, entrepreneurship, and computer literacy and Public Health students providing health and sanitation education
